This qualitative study examined four nonprofit organizations (NPOs) who provided access to six volunteers. The study was designed to examine, interpret, and evaluate the perception of effectiveness in nonprofit organizations from the viewpoint of internal stakeholders. For the benefit of this study, internal stakeholders were volunteers involved in the day-to day operations of nonprofit organizations. Three questions were designed to be answered and two types of phenomenology approaches were used. One approach allowed the research to study the untainted experiences of internal stakeholder’s and the second approach studied the interpretation from the internal stakeholder’s experiences. After data was collected, it was uploaded to NVivo data analysis software. To obtain thematic analysis, patterns and themes were developed. To determine what themes were developed from the data analysis process, three word summary reports were produced. Coded themes were T1 equaled effectiveness, T2 equaled knowledge, and T3 equaled training. All research questions were answered and the results suggested organizational effectiveness, knowledge, and training were interrelated. It was concluded the volunteers’ perception of effectiveness was negatively impacted by the omission of organizational training. All organizations did not have training components in place to educate volunteers. It was recommended that Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) be trained, organizations implement training for volunteers, and organizations introduce communication tools. Protecting the privacy and credibility of the study, reliability was a part of the data management process.
