Search for diphoton events with missing transverse energy with the ATLAS detector at the LHC

Abstract:

A search is performed for γγ + [special characters omitted] events using 36 pb-1 of data delivered to the ATLAS detector by the Large Hadron Collider in 2010. No events in excess of Standard Model predictions are observed. The null observation is used to set a limit on the number of events in the region [special characters omitted] > 125 GeV that can be attributed to physics processes not described by the Standard Model. A 95% confidence level upper limit of 2.2 events from new physics processes is observed. This limit is interpreted in terms of constraints placed on parameters in General Gauge Mediation. A 95% confidence level upper limit on the production cross section between 0.28 pb and 0.48 pb is established that depends upon the gluino mass. A lower limit of 597 GeV is set on the gluino mass independent of the mass of the neutralino. These limits provide the most stringent test of General Gauge Mediation that has yet been performed.
