Multicultural Training Effecting Self-Perceived Multicultural Counseling Competence of Doctoral Students at Professional Schools in California

Abstract:

This study examined the differences in doctoral students' perceptions of how their doctoral program's multicultural training philosophy influenced various aspects of their multicultural counseling competence. The overall hypothesis of this study was that students attending the program with greater exposure to multicultural training experiences (School 1) would have greater levels of multicultural counseling competence scores than students who received required less exposure to multicultural training experiences (School 2). Results found that students at School 1 had greater MCI Knowledge and MCI Awareness Scores than students at School 2. The limitations and suggestions for future research are discussed.
