Analysis of ERP Efficiency in Real Time Monitoring System in the Context of Value and Performance
by Yousefi, Abbas, Ph.D., NORTHCENTRAL UNIVERSITY, 2011, 153 pages; 3467097

Abstract:

In the last decade, many organizations have attempted to move from stand-alone business information systems to an integrated enterprise system, referred to as enterprise resource planning (ERP), to create an opportunity for value-added business processes. This quantitative study was designed to investigate the efficiency of ERP systems in providing real-time information to improve the efficiency of companies as they seek competitive advantage in the global marketplace. ERP systems provide the opportunity to integrate high levels of business processes integration, improve communications at different levels, and combine internal and external communication for faster and easier data accessibility, but maximum efficiency is only accomplished when there is strong alignment between the ERP system and the company's business processes. The success or lack of a successful implementation can be partially measured by examining the four key antecedents of ERP system integration (Interconnectivity, Interoperability, Semantic consistency, and Convergent integration) and ERP performance. This study examined a company that provides real time information to its clients in different industries and included 255 participants. Results indicated a significant relationship between all possible pairs of variables at p < .01, but no significant relationship between ERP performance and a model containing the four identified antecedents of ERP (p = .639). Further, no significant relationship was found between ERP value and a model containing the four identified antecedents of FRP (p = .915). Future research in the areas of critical success factors, key processes, and obstacles is recommended.
