Abstract:

This dissertation presents the study of the narrative work by Fernando Alonso, one of the writers that have helped to renew, dignify and increase the artistic level of the actual Spanish Children's Literature. With such books as El hombrecito vestido de gris (1978), El hombrecillo de papel (1978), El faro del viento (1981) or El bosque de piedra (1985), Fernando Alonso contributed to the renovation of this type of literature and introduce new narrative trends and structures.

An application of some of the most relevant literary theory models, considering the specific nature and complexity of the Children's Literature, served as a basis for the study of this author's work. We have designed a mixed analysis model considering the double literary and educational finality that the Children's Literature has associated. This model includes the next elements: (a) Analysis of the story elements, identifying topics, characters and scenarios. (b) Analysis of the main narrative discourse elements, paying particular attention to the elements that suppose a renovation of the models used traditionally in the literature for children, namely, narrative structures, voices and narrative modes. (c) Intertextuality analysis, from reader-response criticism theories. (d) Paratexts analysis, elements that are not strictly circumscribed to the literary text, but due to their reader attraction capacity acquire value in the field of Children's Literature. (e) Analysis of social values contained in the works of Fernando Alonso from the design of a model based on techniques of content analysis, allowing us to identify and classify systematically the values that the author wishes to convey in his works.

This model permits to go more deeply into the most significant aspects of this author's works, and provides a detailed, rigorous and systematic analysis, applicable to the study of other children's books.
