Factors that affect organizational commitment within an African-American population: A Delphi study

Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to research organizational commitment factors as it relates to professional African-American employees within an organization. This study used the Delphi Study Method to collect data from a panel of 18 who represented a vast range of demographic areas. The survey questions resulted in qualitative and quantitative data. This study found that organizational commitment factors can change overtime and environmental elements can have a significant impact on those most important factors. While there are commonalities in the research as it relates to what commitment factors are relevant to all groups, this study found that there were some more specific to African-American professionals. After reviewing and considering over 65 different potential organizational commitment factors in this study, panelists reached consensus on 5 organizational commitment factors that are important to this group. This study provides a foundation for researchers to build in investigating organizational commitment factors of specific groups.
