The pilgrim and the banquet
by Gill, Charles L., D.Min., DREW UNIVERSITY, 2010, 109 pages; 3410224

Abstract:

This project seeks to take a look at the history of the oldest black Baptist church in the state of Minnesota—Pilgrim Baptist Church in the Rondo neighborhood of St. Paul—and the challenges that it now faces due to changing demographics and government projects. Because of these changes in and around Pilgrim, it suffered a disconnect from its community. The goal of the project is to discover a method of reconnecting the church and community through a "Coffee House Ministry." The project consisted of three events that brought both church and community together; during the events, we distributed a survey designed to help us ascertain the needs, desires, and expectations of the community of the church. The data gained from the survey tool proved extremely helpful in developing future ministries that will enable the church to reach out to the community with relevant ministries and maintain a harmonious relationship in spite of the changes taking place in the community.
