The association of Oregon school report card ratings and socioeconomic status

Abstract:

This study determined if there was a significant or strong association between an Oregon school report card rating (the dependent variable) for public high schools and a school’s socioeconomic ranking, its attendance rate, its limited English proficiency (LEP) rate, its economically disadvantaged rate, and its mobility rate (independent variables). The results indicated that the attendance rate was the most significant individual variable for determining report card rating value in both the univariate regression as well as the multivariate regressions. The LEP rate was the second most significant individual variable in both the univariate regression and the multivariate regression for determining report card rating value. The economically disadvantaged rate was the third most significant finding and the mobility rate was fourth.
