Identifying at risk young children: A comparison of the Preschool and Kindergarten Behavior Scales, Second Edition and the Behavior Assessment System for Children, Second Edition
by Edwards, Michelle D., Ph.D., CAPELLA UNIVERSITY, 2009, 74 pages; 3379265

Abstract:

The utility of the Preschool Kindergarten Behavior Scale-2 (PKBS-2) based on its relationship to the Behavior Assessment Scale for Children-2 (BASC-2) as a screening tool for the identification of 4 and 5 year-old boys and girls at risk for developing behavior problems was examined. Sixty-one boys and girls who attended the YWCA were the focus of the study. Statistically significant negative and positive relationships occurred between the BASC-2 and PKBS-2 when teachers and parents rated children. Further comparisons between the two instruments reveal good construct validity as well as good reliability. The PKBS-2 is further documented as a reliable screening tool for the identification of children at risk for behavior problems.
