Defining causes of perceived stress in athletic training students enrolled in CAATE accredited Athletic Training Education Programs

Abstract:

This study contains the preliminary background, methods, and discussion for research on perceived stress in athletic training students enrolled in Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Educational Programs (CAATE) accredited Athletic Training Programs. The survey was a compilation of questions from The Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and demographical questions, as well as an open-ended section about stressors that were reported in the literature for other allied health professionals during academic and clinical programs. The research analyzes perceived stress, as indicated by PSS scores, in order to identify and clarify the causes of as reported by the individual students in order to inform the athletic training learning community and potentially develop strategies to decrease perceived stress and increase retention and persistence to graduation in undergraduate athletic training students.
