The efficacy of using feature films as case study to teach psychology
by Pela, Carolyn A., Ph.D., CAPELLA UNIVERSITY, 2008, 132 pages; 3311392

Abstract:

The study examines the effectiveness of using feature film to teach psychology, with a quasi-experimental pretest-double-posttest design. The researcher teaches concepts of adolescent identity development to the teaching-intervention group using a 15-minute clip from a feature film. The comparative group listens to a lecture on the same topic. Brain-based learning theory is used as a theoretical background. The first postintervention test detects a significant difference in knowledge, with the film group learning more. The second posttest of retention, taken one week post-intervention, determines that there was no difference in learning between the two groups.
