A qualitative investigation of therapists' experiences in the Welfare-to-Work program
by Sanchez, David P., PsyD, ALLIANT INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY, SAN DIEGO, 2008, 0 pages; 3308283

Abstract: Billions of dollars each year are being allocated by the United States government to programs providing support services for families who are in temporary need and require financial, medical, educational, and emotional support. Welfare-to-Work is one such program. This study utilized a qualitative design to examine the clinicians' treatment experiences for delivering mental health services to TANF recipients in San Diego County. In essence, the clinical researcher searched among treatment providers for common themes, patterns, and insights that might contribute to streamlining therapeutic services provided to the welfare-to-work (TANF) population. The clinical researcher also examined the mental health clinician's notions about the welfare-to-work women and the impact these notions have on the clinicians' therapeutic work with the women. Findings from this study were examined and discussed through a feminist theory and social constructive perspective.
