An analysis of the leadership practices of public school principals in rural school districts in the state of North Carolina
by Sims, Kay W., Ph.D., CAPELLA UNIVERSITY, 2008, 112 pages; 3307289

Abstract:

This study analyzed the instructional leadership practices of public school principals in rural school settings, in the state of North Carolina. The actual leadership practices of these principals were examined to determine if they were operating as instructional leaders, and to see if they had a good understanding of what instructional leadership is. The amount of time that was spent by them, conducting instructional leadership tasks, was also examined. This study additionally considered how instructional leadership has evolved since the introduction of the No Child Left Behind Law, in an effort to determine if accountability issues stemming from that law have led to an increase in the performance of instructional leadership activities.
