The path to leadership for Native American women at North Dakota tribal colleges
by Ressler, Koreen M., Ph.D., CAPELLA UNIVERSITY, 2008, 171 pages; 3297737

Abstract:

The purpose of the study was to explore North Dakota tribal college female leaders' path to leadership. Further, the study focused on whether the traditional roles of Native American women assisted these women in achieving leadership positions. The study was a qualitative, flexible methodology using a case study grounded theory approach to discover, develop, and provisionally verify data. The target population for this research study was eight Native American women who currently hold or have held leadership positions at one of the five North Dakota tribal colleges. Leadership positions were defined as presidents, vice presidents, and deans. The Native American women formerly holding leadership positions from the North Dakota tribal colleges still live in North Dakota and have jobs relating to tribal colleges. In addition, each of the participants held a minimum of a master's degree.
