A feeling of belonging: Impacts of gay-straight alliances on high school students
by Shores, Jeffrey L., EdD, ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY, 2007, 0 pages; 3288011

Abstract: This qualitative study investigates the impact of belonging to a Gay-Straight Alliance (G.S.A.) in the high school setting. A paper-and-pencil survey was administered to students and interviews were conducted with school administrators and advisors of the G.S.A. Interviews were organized and presented in narrative form, whereas student surveys were analyzed and depicted in figures and graphs. The findings and conclusions support previous research that G.S.A.s have a positive effect on students' sense of physical safety, school and social relationships and interactions, and feeling of belonging to the school. Implications for G.S.A. advisors and school administrators conclude the study.
