The relationship between technological entrepreneur type and use of innovative technology
by Maxwell, James Richard, Ph.D., INDIANA STATE UNIVERSITY, 2007, 97 pages; 3286445

Abstract:

This study presents an analysis of the relationship between the degree of use of innovative technology, type of entrepreneur, and the success of the firm. Entrepreneurs wield a disportionately high influence on the U.S. economy. Opportunistic-type entrepreneurs have certain characteristics and traits that other types of entrepreneurs do not. These high achieving entrepreneurs are identified as Opportunistic-type and distinguished from Craftsman-type that are not.

This study was based on a survey of manufacturing firms with 500 or less employees located within the domestic United States as defined by the United States Small Business Administration.

The statistical analyses included tests of significance on the type of entrepreneur management experience, formal education, degree of use of innovative technology, and the number of employees for the last five years.

The tests revealed that there was a significant relationship between entrepreneur type and the use of innovative technology in small entrepreneurial manufacturing firms. The tests also revealed that the there is a significant relationship between the entrepreneur type and firm success.
