Analysis of the damaging effects of workaholism in managers versus non-managers

This study was an attempt to address the need for further research of workaholism. By doing so, specifics of the prevalence of workaholism in managers and non-managers were revealed. The study used the Workaholism Battery and was based on a sample of 58 combined managers and non-managers from a consulting firm in the United States. The Workaholism Battery was used to assess enjoyment, involvement, drive, time commitment, stress, perfectionism, and delegation in workaholics and non-workaholics along with hours worked and demographic data. Workaholism is the most accepted and, as such, often most insidious addiction today. Individually, workaholism affects personal relationships, causes emotional problems such as depression and anxiety and physical ailments. Organizationally, workaholism affects performance, productivity, non-delegating, and ultimately burnout.
