An alternative model for pastoral succession in the African American Baptist Church in lieu of congregational voting
by Davis, Victor M., D.Min., UNITED THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY, 2006, 108 pages; 3282739

Abstract:

The context of this model is the Trinity Baptist Church, Columbus, Ohio. The design for this model centered on the development and suggested alternative model for pastoral succession within the African American Baptist Church that is biblically based. The qualitative research design consisted of interviews and observations of select pastors who had experienced at least one pastoral transition that may have involved the predecessor in the selection of the successor. It was concluded that in some cases the recommended model could be applies if the predecessor, successor and congregation are included in the process.
