Exploring the practices of knowledge sharing between projects: An investigation of the dimensions of what, when, and how knowledge is shared

Abstract:

The sharing of knowledge between projects is inefficient and reduces the effectiveness of organizations in an environment in which managing knowledge is critical to survival. The gap between the theory and practice of project knowledge sharing using Nonaka's (2000) unified model of Socialization, Externalization, Combination, and Internalization (SECI), BA, and knowledge assets is explored to find out whether there is a positive relationship between what and when knowledge is shared and how it is shared between projects. The study design is mixed method with two phases. The first qualitative phase addresses the survey's validity, reliability, and design. The second quantitative phase uses a web-enabled survey to collect data from project professionals using a single stage, cross-sectional approach. This study proposes a Knowledge Sharing Maturity Model (KSM2) to improve and implement project knowledge sharing. Future researchers should explore methods for implementing this maturity model.
