by Carmona, Ana M., Ph.D., TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY, 2007, 87 pages; 3277894

Abstract:

The present study looked at different ways to promote parental involvement in a Department of Defense Middle School in the South Eastern region of the United States. Middle School Parents were surveyed to assess their attitude about parental involvement, their present level of involvement, and their suggestions in improving parental involvement at the school. Different activities and opportunities for involvement were implemented during a six week period in the Spring semester. These activities included: A Parents' Corner, a school newsletter, parenting workshops, and the use of a telephone call out system. The study concluded by comparing volunteer logged hours from the previous year with this year's. A qualitative analysis was conducted on input, ideas and suggestions provided by parents on a survey.
