Abstract:

This study investigated a new and untapped resource whereby the elementary youth in grades 4-6 could participate in a unique computer education program that would enhance their individual daily homework and at the same time build-up their future proficiency at the secondary level.

This research study was carried out by the implementation of two control groups so that this researcher could observe if the educational academics were influenced within the curriculum setting by a supplemental enrichment (C/TE) program incorporated in grades 4-6. This study further aided the researcher in determining if the (C/TE) program were an effective supplemental enhancing educational tool in raising grades and preparing one for a better foundation in a secondary school. One aspect of the research was to integrate to the existing curriculum a set of technology education lessons based on the (C/TE) program format as part of the supplemental enhancing educational tool.

The literature also identified (5) five major areas that needed to be looked at in regards to establishing the (C/TE) program.

This researcher identified three research sections beginning with Part I, the Quick NICKEL assessment questionnaire (survey) a pre-multiple-choice/Yes/No questionnaire developed by this researcher which was administered specifically to each student to gather previous general computer knowledge and awareness. In addition a second pre survey questionnaire was specifically administered to each parent of the control group # 1 and a third pre survey questionnaire was administered to a particular selected number of teachers who showed interest in participating in the study. Part II dealt specifically with the Data Sheets that were filled out and collected for analyses and Part III outlined the process of evaluation applied to the (C/TE) program.

The researcher introduced the process of initiating this study in an outlined step by step approach from the (C/TE) teacher training through to the administration of the pre- questionnaire given to the students, parents, and teachers, which set the criteria for the selecting and choosing of the two control groups. The researcher included a statistical break down of the data (attendance and grades) collected over a four-year period as well as commits gathered from various surveys administered to the major stake holders such as (1)  students, (2) parents, and (3)  teachers.

This researcher concludes that the (C/TE) program is just one small aspect of vocational/industrial education and yet it helps strengthen the students and prepares them for either a college/university career or a vocational/industrial career. The (C/TE) program appears to be the glue that fosters success in all students.

About ProQuest Dissertations & Theses
With over 2.3 million records, the ProQuest Dissertations & Theses (PQDT) database is the most comprehensive collection of dissertations and theses in the world. It is the database of record for graduate research.

The database includes citations of graduate works ranging from the first U.S. dissertation, accepted in 1861, to those accepted as recently as last semester. Of the 2.3 million graduate works included in the database, ProQuest offers more than 1.9 million in full text formats. Of those, over 860,000 are available in PDF format. More than 60,000 dissertations and theses are added to the database each year.
