Curriculum change process: Collaboration of shared responsibility for designing and implementing curriculum improvements within a governmental agency

Abstract:

This study explored a governmental agency's 2006 implementation of a curriculum change process. The curriculum change process was part of their shift in priorities since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Through the use of document analysis, an online questionnaire, and face-to-face interview several consistent themes were identified: the importance of communicating and sharing the vision of any strategic change, the importance of implementing a curriculum life-cycle/revision process during the evaluation phase of the instructional systems design (ISD) process, and the importance of fostering a collaborative atmosphere of shared responsibility when working through the ISD process. The research resulted in recommendations on how to improve their curriculum change process.
