Empirical studies on consumer demand and philanthropy
by Reinstein, David Aaron, PhD, UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, BERKELEY, 2006, 0 pages; 3254044

Abstract: This dissertation examines two questions. The first two chapters estimate and describe the extent to which an individual's charitable donation to one cause displaces his or her giving to another cause, using both happenstance (observational) and experimental data. The third chapter (a paper coauthored in the Journal of Industrial Economics with Chris J. Snyder) estimates and describes the extent to which a movie reviewer influences (rather than merely predicts) the 'box office' demand for a film.
