Dine binahat'a', Navajo government
by Benally, AnCita, Ph.D., ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY, 2006, 253 pages; 3241252

Abstract:

Modern Navajo government has evolved from a political system based on native Navajo concepts and ideals of leadership and governance to one based on Anglo-American concepts of political order. Although it was initiated to serve the needs of non-Navajo political and economic interests, the Din? shaped and transformed it into a government that is uniquely their own. Modern Navajo government continues to evolve as it deals with serving a community that remains based in Navajo culture. Today the Navajo Nation Council and the Chapter community governments are established institutions fundamental to Navajo society.
