by Peach, Jaclyn, M.S.Sc., UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO AT DENVER, 2011, 133 pages; 1507314

Abstract:

This study utilizes critical discourse analysis to determine whether NPR's Facebook Page is an online space akin to the traditional offline public sphere. All content on NPR's Facebook Page will be used for this analysis. The first part of the research examines the different dynamics of interaction on NPR's Facebook Page. The results of the exchanges on NPR's Facebook Page are then used to determine if bonding or bridging social capital are produced. Finally, this research analyzes online behaviors to determine whether citizens can carry out civic actions while using NPR's Facebook Page.
