by Overacker, Amy|McMonigal, Sheila, M.S.|M.S., THE COLLEGE OF ST. SCHOLASTICA, 2011|2011, 40 pages; 1503778

Abstract:

Life review is a method for older adults to learn about themselves and come to terms with where they are in their lives. This literature review evaluated the theoretical background of life reviews and evidence supporting life review's use with older adults in long term care facilities. Research on life reviews with older adults has been carried out in a variety of settings, with different populations, and using different formats of life review. Studies were analyzed based on inclusion criteria and four studies were selected. The analyzed studies indicate that life review has been found to improve life satisfaction, self-esteem, ego-integrity, depression, and hopelessness. Further research is needed to evaluate the functional outcomes and health promotion of life review.

Key Words: Older Adults, Life Review, Long Term Care, Life Satisfaction, Depression, Egointegrity
