Abstract:

Martin Luther King, Jr. and Adolph Hitler are often highlighted as examples of good and bad leaders, positioned on opposite sides of the leadership spectrum and as a result of their leadership outcomes, dismissed as being distant and separate in their leadership practices. However, effective and ineffective leaders demonstrate common behaviors, including the ability to share a vision, provide order or structure to a movement, and create a common platform for action. It is not surprising then, that many organizations experience failure, due to leadership left to chance rather than prescribing to a defined set of expectations and a process for providing feedback regarding ineffective versus effective leadership behavior. This paper will identify the impact of ineffective leadership on organizational performance and provide recommendations for best practice.
