Speech-language pathologists and elementary education teachers judgments of severity in speech sound disorders

Abstract:

This study determined the difference in judgments of severity and referral ratings between speech language pathologists (SLPs) and elementary education teachers in eight children with speech sound disorders. The children ranged from three to five years of age. The results revealed no significant difference in judgments of severity and referral ratings between the SLPs and teachers. This study also examined the relationship between the Percent Consonants Correct (PCC) measure and severity ratings by SLPs. The results which revealed that PCC scores were a significant predictor of SLP severity ratings, suggest that the PCC is a valid measure of severity.
