by Crever, Jackie Elizabeth, M.B.A., THE COLLEGE OF ST. SCHOLASTICA, 2011, 63 pages; 1499986

Abstract:

Many people believe that advances in the healthcare field have enhanced human life in a variety of ways. Few studies have analyzed the perspectives of patients and their viewpoints on the advancements. This study investigated the lived experiences of six women over the age of 90 using a phenomenological, qualitative methodology. The investigation reported on women's perspectives of the healthcare system in the past, present, and future. The importance of wisdom in elderly population is discussed in depth. End of life care is a significant issue for the aging population, and the study included perspectives on that topic. The research is framed by a brief history of older adults and their relationships to the healthcare system.
