The loss of a parent can have a significant impact on Latino children in a variety of ways. The purpose of this project was to design a bereavement support program for latent aged Latino children and their families, identify potential funding sources, and complete a grant proposal to implement and fund this program at the Whole Child Agency in Whittier, CA. This program consists of four culturally enriched components to support Latino children and their families in their grieving process (a) a weekend summer camp, (b) a volunteer camp mentor able to provide support throughout the weekend, (c) a weekly child support group following the camp experience, and (d) a eight-week psycho-educational support group for the surviving parents of these grieving children to provide skills for helping their children understand and adapt to the loss. The actual submission and/or funding of this grant was not a requirement for the successful completion of the project.
