Select Ruthenium Complexes as Potential Candidates for Thiol Ligation
by Reinhart, Adam Blake, M.S., ARKANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY, 2011, 46 pages; 1496516

Abstract:

Hydrodesulfurization is an industrial process used to remove sulfur impurities from fossil fuel feedstocks in order to prevent air pollution and acid deposition. The sulfur impurities are passed over a transition-metal sulfide catalyst producing pure hydrocarbons and usable sulfur byproduct. The current process occurs under high temperature and pressure. Molecular models of the catalyst/substrate interaction have been synthesized in order to study the electron density about the sulfur atom and thus give insight to the HDS activity of the complexes.

CpRu(dppe)Cl and Ru(9S3)(dmso)Cl2 were studied for their ability to coordinate thiols. A new preparative method using microwave-assisted synthesis was found for the HDS model starting compound Ru(9S3)(dmso)Cl.

About ProQuest Dissertations & Theses
With over 2.3 million records, the ProQuest Dissertations & Theses (PQDT) database is the most comprehensive collection of dissertations and theses in the world. It is the database of record for graduate research.

The database includes citations of graduate works ranging from the first U.S. dissertation, accepted in 1861, to those accepted as recently as last semester. Of the 2.3 million graduate works included in the database, ProQuest offers more than 1.9 million in full text formats. Of those, over 860,000 are available in PDF format. More than 60,000 dissertations and theses are added to the database each year.
