Development and validation of a Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometric method for the quantification of dimethicone in diaper rash cream

Abstract:

The goal of this research was to develop and validate a Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectrometric method for the quantification of dimethicone in diaper rash cream. In the pharmaceutical industry, a quick, simple, cost-effective, and accurate analytical method is an essential part of successful pharmaceutical product analysis. Currently, the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) has a published method for the assay of dimethicone using FTIR. However, this method is only used for the raw material assay. In this research, various FTIR analytical techniques were evaluated and a quantitative analytical method was developed which was shown to be accurate and precise for the assay of dimethicone in cream. Moreover, this method was validated and proved to be simple, fast, and cost-effective.
