Quality excellence begins with evaluation of organizational change readiness
by Hilde, Leana, M.S., CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, DOMINGUEZ HILLS, 2011, 119 pages; 1496052

Abstract:

Health care organizations strive toward achieving excellence in their performance and patient outcomes. That progress toward quality excellence invariably involves change. The evaluation of an organization's readiness for change is an important initial step in the complex journey towards quality excellence. Organizations often neglect to complete this important assessment. This paper concentrates on one of the three levels of quality, the individual. Utilizing evaluation tools such as a survey and overlaying the results with a needs-based theory familiar to health care organizations can provide a roadmap toward the goals of achieving sustainable quality excellence. The research evaluates a readiness-for-change assessment that (1) has ease of use and scoring and (2) provides a springboard to discussions on barriers that may hinder the overall success of change initiatives in health care organizations. Organizations have the personnel within to support change. Harnessing this resource through evaluation is a step towards change initiative success.
