by Hamilton, Phelesha R., M.A., SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY AND AGRICULTURAL AND MECHANICAL COLLEGE, 2010, 68 pages; 1494491

Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to examine the progression of African Americans in politics leading up to the 2008 election of Barack Obama to be President of the United States. As a result of this election, African Americans have reached the highest possible position in politics. This thesis begins with the existence of slavery leading up to the Civil Rights Movement. Methods used in conducting this research consist of electronic newspapers, theses, and online sources. These sources will strengthen the writer's knowledge as she seeks to defend her position on the 2008 election as a stepping stone for political change.
