Individual, familial and institutional level predictors of stress in female freshmen from Asian American and Latina families

Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to explore how ethnic identity, family support, and cultural congruity between home and school predict stress in Asian American and Latina female undergraduate students during their college transition. I use an ecological systems perspective (Bronfenbrenner & Morris, 2006) as a theoretical framework for the study. I hypothesize that ethnic identity, family support, and cultural congruity will negatively predict stress in Latina and Asian American female freshmen. One hundred and twenty two Asian American and 294 Latina undergraduate female students participated in an online survey regarding different aspects of their transitioning to college.
