"And the War Came": A memorial to devastated lives

Abstract:

Designing for And the War Came, my intention was to honor fallen soldiers and address the concerns of people who continuously face the destructive force of war. By researching war related cultures and art, I chose to arrange military boots and piles of paper to create a theatrical memorial. Military boots paid tribute to fallen soldiers. Piles of paper reflected memories passed between those people who continually face the horror of war. With the utilization of video projection, digital forms of memory were also included in this memorial. In addition, the performance was staged in an actual functioning Armory. The coexistence of a theater and a military space tied the elements of war with the memorial and accentuated the core idea of my design.
