Professional stress and effect of immigration
by Odeti, Shyam Sundhar, M.S., TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY - KINGSVILLE, 2009, 41 pages; 1481666

Abstract:

Immigration has become a global phenomenon. There is a rapid increase in the immigrant population in USA. Indians occupy the second position in the increasing immigrant and nonimmigrant alien population. Most of the Indian population belongs to the educated and intellectual population. This group has the highest per capita income in the United States.

The problems faced by the immigrant Indian community are the acculturation stress and inability to cope with the loneliness which happens for the first time in their life. There is increased responsibility in their work place. They are forced to work with various other ethnic people, which is difficult for them because they are unaware of other ethnic characteristics.

This research deals with 211 people divided into two groups, one is the Indian ethnic people working in United States and the other is Indian people working in India. This would further help in the measures that can be taken by the organizations and individuals to avoid the stress.
