The effectiveness of guided reading on the reading achievement of a special needs 1st grade student
by Renne, Michael, M.A.S.E., CALDWELL COLLEGE, 2010, 38 pages; 1475224

Abstract:

While in school, reading is the most important skill that a young learner needs to master. When a young learner struggles with reading, he/she becomes less confident and unsure. Many times when students struggle with learning to read, they shut down and do not enjoy being in school. This research project sought to investigate the effectiveness of guided reading on a struggling reader. Data were collected to find out if the skills taught during guided reading were being acquired and generalized. The results of this study indicated that guided reading was one factor that was effective in helping this struggling child become a more fluent reader who comprehended text.
