Electrochemical performance and discharge mechanism of silver vanadium phosphorous oxide, Ag2VO2PO4

Abstract:

Silver Vanadium Phosphorous Oxide (SVPO), Ag2VO2PO 4, as an active electrode material has several good electrochemical properties which are large capacity, high current capability, and effective delivery of high current pulses. SVPO is synthesized hydrothermally at 230°C using Silver (I) Oxide (Ag2O), Vanadium (V) Oxide (V2O 5), Phosphoric acid (H3PO4), and DI Water (H 2O) as the starting materials in Acid Digestion reactors. The product, SVPO powder, was characterized by X-Ray Diffractometry (XRD), true density (pycnometry) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). Because of its electrochemical properties, this material is desirable for Implantable Cardiac Defibrillator (ICD). Thus, several studies were conducted on this material for this application including improvement of the material's electrical conductivities as a cathode and change of the cathode as a function of depth of discharge. This thesis will reveal that discharging SVPO cells will increase the electrical conductivity because of formation of the silver nanoparticles, and decrease the true density of the SVPO.
