Targeting cyclophilin-CD147 interaction as an approach to treat inflammatory diseases
by Gill, Mandeep Kaur, M.S., THE GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY, 2009, 107 pages; 1467717

Abstract:

The recruitment and trafficking of leukocytes are essential for the inflammatory process. Extracellular cyclophilins are described as chemotactic factors for human leukocytes. This chemotactic capacity is dependent upon interaction with the cell surface signaling receptor CD147. It was recently shown that cyclophilin-CD147 interaction plays a direct role in the recruitment of leukocytes into inflamed tissues. In this study, our findings strongly suggest that interaction between CypA and CD147 can be inhibited by small compounds. Thus, compounds targeting the CypA-CD147 interaction may potentially prevent certain inflammatory diseases where the CypA-CD147 interaction plays a role, such as rheumatoid arthritis or lung inflammation.

About ProQuest Dissertations & Theses
With over 2.3 million records, the ProQuest Dissertations & Theses (PQDT) database is the most comprehensive collection of dissertations and theses in the world. It is the database of record for graduate research.

The database includes citations of graduate works ranging from the first U.S. dissertation, accepted in 1861, to those accepted as recently as last semester. Of the 2.3 million graduate works included in the database, ProQuest offers more than 1.9 million in full text formats. Of those, over 860,000 are available in PDF format. More than 60,000 dissertations and theses are added to the database each year.
