Perception of Latino students by teachers and counselors in the educational system

Abstract:

The purpose of this project was to explore some of the barriers that Latino students encounter in the educational system in the United States. Literature was reviewed in regard to the Latino educational experience and how educators perceive them. In addition, existing narratives were reviewed for the purpose of understanding the significance of narrative writing and its relevance to the social work profession in a scholarly manner The narrative examines the author's struggles as he encounters negative stereotypes in the educational system and how he uses his resiliency to overcome the negative stigma of being labeled an underachiever. The author hopes that by disclosing his experiences in the educational system, the social work profession will develop an of awareness that will challenge the ethnic injustices in our society.
