The effects of autism on children between the ages of 3--10
by Myrie, Andrea L., M.A., LONG ISLAND UNIVERSITY, THE BROOKLYN CENTER, 2009, 28 pages; 1465972

Abstract:

Autism is a disorder that can affect the normal development of a child from a young age. The symptoms may vary in children and is thought to be more prevalent in boys than girls. However, the cause of autism is unknown and speculations are that it can be developed from genes, neurological problems and even vaccinations (Marchione, 2008). The best way to diagnose a child is by taking he or she to a clinician. Autism can be diagnosed using instruments such as the checklist for autism in toddlers, the pervasive development disorder screening test and the autism behavior checklist. Treatments include applied behavior analysis, speech therapy and occupational therapy, to name a few that aid in the development of these children.
