El paternalismo y la dominacion racial en la literatura de Puerto Rico: Un acercamiento

Abstract:

  En el libro “Insularismo: ensayos de interpretación puertorriqueña” (1934), Antonio S. Pedreira (1899-1939), el intelectual destacado puertorriqueño, explora la significación de ser puertorriqueño y los factores que contribuyen a la identidad. Una de las áreas de su investigación es la composición racial y su efecto biológico. Para Pedreira, el mestizaje de los europeos y africanos en la sangre puertorriqueña crean una lucha interna que causa una confusión mental y docilidad.

Esta investigación explorará dos fenómenos: la razón de Pedreira escribirá que los africanos como inferiores y el impacto sus postulados para la comunidad afro-puertorriqueña. La tesis explicara la circunstancia social que influencia la creación de Insularismo por la usa de las teorías de paternalismo y dominación racial. Para explicar el impacto de los escritores afro-puertorriqueños, uso un enfoque analítico de la literatura que escribieron en repuesta a Pedreira.
