Whalen Gentrup Hunts for Fiffalope
by Downey, Michael Thomas, M.F.A., UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 2009, 29 pages; 1462493

Abstract:

The actor's mission is simple. She needs to tell a story honestly and with clarity of purpose. In the pursuit of this objective the actor tends to complicate matters. This underlines the necessity of actor training. The exercise of writing the solo-show contained in this thesis illuminates the experience of one actor in the discovery of this mission. He was forced to grapple with primeval elements of story and presentation. He had to come to grips with the truth as it jumps forward from the action of his life. The relevance of such an activity is that it supplied this performer with key elements to his growth and development as a story teller and artisan.
