by Alvarez, Tanya, M.A., PRESCOTT COLLEGE, 2009, 48 pages; 1462060

Abstract:

This is an ongoing urban ethnography focusing on adjudicated Latino youth in the south side barrios of Tucson, Arizona. This research serves to expand upon the body of data and literature on Latino youth ages 14-24 years, gangs, graffiti art, public art and to locate successful data driven creative strategies for prevention and intervention with at-risk youth. Research Question: "Do community art projects affect gang and anti-social behavior of Latino youth in the barrio?" The collection of research within this project includes qualitative and quantitative data such as art, pictures and essays along with clinically significant data synthesized into three detailed case studies.
