Determinacion de las concentraciones de dioxido de carbono en salones de escuelas elementales del Distrito Escolar de Caguas II

Abstract:

A number of approaches exist to evaluate building ventilation and indoor air quality. In several situations, the measurements and analysis of indoor carbon dioxide concentrations can be a practical measurement for the understanding of indoor air quality and ventilation.

In this research are compared indoor carbon dioxide concentration detected in different schools of Caguas II Scholar District. The measurements of indoor air samples were taken in first grade classrooms, where two of them were equipped with air conditioning systems. The results showed that 75% of the classrooms in the schools studied have CO2 levels less that the maximum ASHRAE guidelines recommended of 1000 ppm. One of the classrooms that had air conditioning exceeds the parameter of 1000 ppm of carbon dioxide concentration and had an average of 2426 ppm. This high concentration is indicative of a low ventilation rate, which resulted in 2.48 L/sec per person.
