Fred K. Darragh, Jr.: A liberal for all seasons
by Simers, Sarah E., M.A., UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS, 2008, 61 pages; 1459017

Abstract:

Fred K. Darragh, Jr., a Little Rock businessman during the Civil Rights movement, was a one of the few business leaders to openly and actively support progressive causes during the second half of the 20th century. Examination of his life reveals the difficulties white liberals in Arkansas faced as they attempted to end segregation, and how Darragh and other like-minded individuals often took secondary roles in order for the Civil Rights movement to continue. This work focuses on Darragh's involvement with the Arkansas Council on Human Relations, the Episcopal Diocese of Arkansas, and the Arkansas Commission on Civil Rights.
