How alcohol affects college student-athletes
by Schlichting, Andrew W., M.S.E., SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY, 2008, 82 pages; 1458867

Abstract:

This action research project explored ways that alcohol affects college student-athletes. Two hundred-ten student-athletes from a rural university in the Midwest were surveyed. The action research examined how alcohol affects performance on the field, as well as in the classroom. The results showed that alcohol affects academics much more than athletics. In addition, student-athletes appear to consume alcohol more frequently than regular college students. Also, as supported by previous studies, alcohol consumption and abuse often leads to other drug use. The information that resulted from this project will be useful for student-athletes, coaches, and administrators. However, more research will need to be done on a larger scale to ensure validity.
