Using shallow seismic reflection to resolve the glacial history along the southern coast of Cape Cod, MA
by Gruber, Matthew Paul, M.S., BOSTON COLLEGE, 2007, 60 pages; 1452123

Abstract:

Debate surrounds the glacial history of southern Cape Cod as current data and analyses are insufficient to clearly discern the details of the area's glacial events. A shallow seismic reflection survey at Mashpee, MA imaged three reflection surfaces that correlate well to the area's stratigraphy. The data suggest pre-Laurentide deposits rest on the deepest reflection, bedrock. The reflection surface above the pre-Laurentian deposits has a concave downward section interpreted as a 325 m wide and 35m deep channel, which is filled with glaciolacustrine sediment. The top of the glaciolacustrine layer is imaged by a reflection that suggests the glaciolacustrine layer was eroded due to the drainage of a proglacial lake. The thick sequence above the shallowest reflector is an interval of outwash sediment, deposited during the ice sheet's final retreat.

About ProQuest Dissertations & Theses
With over 2.3 million records, the ProQuest Dissertations & Theses (PQDT) database is the most comprehensive collection of dissertations and theses in the world. It is the database of record for graduate research.

The database includes citations of graduate works ranging from the first U.S. dissertation, accepted in 1861, to those accepted as recently as last semester. Of the 2.3 million graduate works included in the database, ProQuest offers more than 1.9 million in full text formats. Of those, over 860,000 are available in PDF format. More than 60,000 dissertations and theses are added to the database each year.
