Comparison of PACER and half mile run as tools of aerobic assessment
by Senna, Kathy J., M.A., KEAN UNIVERSITY, 2007, 44 pages; 1449971

Abstract:

This study compared test scores of the PACER and the ½ mile run, in fourth grade students. Ninety 4th grade boys and girls practiced and ran the ½ mile and PACER in their physical fitness unit in physical education class. The descriptive data collected included heights and weights, age, sex and BMI. The PACER scores and the ½ mile scores were recorded and correlated to determine the relationship between the two aerobic assessments. The data found the correlation between PACER and the ½ mile for girls was -.61 and -.57 for boys. The results were similar to findings by Mahar et al.(1997) who found correlations between PACER laps and 1 mile run ranging from -.59 to -.67 for a large sample of 10 and 11 year old boys and girls.
